A mathematical average for evenly spaced sessions, not a required calendar or readiness measurement.

The result is not a frequency recommendation

Twelve sets split into two sessions produces six plus six. It does not prove that twelve sets is appropriate, that two sessions is optimal, or that the muscle recovers in 3.5 days. Exercise selection, direct and indirect work, effort, performance, soreness, pain, fatigue, and schedule all remain relevant.

A meta-analysis of 25 studies found no significant higher-versus-lower frequency difference when weekly volume was equated.

How does the training frequency calculator work?

It divides planned weekly working sets by selected sessions, distributes any remainder one set at a time, and reports seven divided by sessions as the average interval for even spacing.

Does the calculator recommend how often I should train a muscle?

No. It displays scheduling arithmetic only. Exercise choice, effort, performance, recovery, pain, availability, and the full program determine whether a distribution is appropriate.

Is twice per week optimal for hypertrophy?

Not universally. A 2019 meta-analysis found no meaningful higher-versus-lower frequency difference for hypertrophy when weekly volume was equated. Frequency can be used to organize the weekly work.

Does this calculator use Forma’s recovery or volume model?
