Average accuracy is not individual precision
A systematic review comparing common resting metabolic rate equations found Mifflin-St Jeor the most reliable among the equations it reviewed, but still emphasized noteworthy individual errors and underrepresentation of some age and ethnic groups. More recent reviews in athletes and adults with overweight or obesity found that equation performance changes with the population and that precision remains limited.
Two statements can both be true
An equation can have low average bias across a group. A particular person can still be far from the group prediction. Group agreement should not be presented as a guarantee of individual accuracy.

How accurate is a TDEE calculator?

Why do TDEE calculators give different answers?
Calculators can use different resting-energy equations, activity categories, rounding rules, and assumptions. The populations used to develop each equation also differ.
Is adaptive TDEE more accurate?
Repeated intake and bodyweight observations can make an estimate more individualized, but food logging, scale noise, model assumptions, and missing data still create uncertainty.
Does Forma measure metabolism?
